Beanie" passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital -Scollard Site on Saturday October 4th, 2008 at the age of 85 yrs. Beloved husband of 60 years to Lina (née Burton). Dear father of Brian of North Bay and Debbra of London. Also survived by a sister Flora Stuart and a brother Jack Cockburn both of Sudbury. He will be sadly missed by many kith and kin. Walter was with the 429 Squadron during WWII, returning to Sturgeon Falls to operate Cockburn Photography and Cockburn Fisheries. He also worked for Abitibi for many years before retiring with the Sturgeon Falls License Bureau. Walter was also well known for his many years serving on the area School Board and the Sturgeon Falls town council. He was especially proud of his involvement with the opening of the West Nipissing General Hospital. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 225 and also a member of the Sturgeon Falls Lodge A. F. and A. M. #447 and the North Bay Rorab Shrine Club. As per his wishes there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date. The family is grateful to Dr. Trenker, Dr. Paul and all the staff at the North Bay General Hospital, Dr. Pritchard with the Regional Cancer Program in Sudbury, the support from the Community Care Access Centre, all the nurses from VON and Para Med, and the Metis Nation of Ontario. FAHLGREN, Gustaf Douglas -On Friday October 3, 2008 in his 87th year. Dear husband of Shirley Fahlgren (nee Barton). Loving father of Bart (Jennifer Young) of Aurora, Terry Blair (Don) of North Bay, Kathy Thompson (Trevor) of Markham and Chris (Nancy Morelli) of Bradford. Sadly missed by grandchildren Ryan and Sarah Thompson, Trevor Fahlgren and Emily, Alexandra and Ava Fahlgren. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Edith, Ed, Eva, Elvira, Evelyne and Art. Doug was a pilot for over 45 years, starting with the RCAF as a navigator from 1942-1945. In civilian life he flew various assignments across Canada and the United States with the federal government. He was also the chief pilot for Teck Corp. flying magnetometer surveys for mining exploration. Doug was an honourary life member of 406 Wing. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Wednesday October 8, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church On Thursday at 2 pm. Cremation to follow at the Forest Lawn Crematorium. If desired donations to the North Bay General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

FREELAND, Frederick Wilson (WW II Veteran) -On Thursday October 2nd, 2008 with his family by his side Frederick left this life to go to be with Muriel his wife. Beloved father of Judy Koovisk (Paul) of Kelowna BC, and Lynn Freeland of North Bay. Cherished grandfather of Matthew and Amanda Koovisk of Kelowna BC, Eliisa Koovisk of Calgary Alberta, and Brody Freeland of North Bay. Predeceased by loving wife Muriel (Brown) 1989 and infant son Frederick (1953). Dear brother of Alex (Lillian) of Capreol, Kenneth (late Margaret) of Truro N. S., Gerald (late Marilyn) of Capreol, Bill of Capreol, Elizabeth (Albert Barbe) of Capreol, and Helen Cassell (late Albert) of Lively. Dear brother-in-law of Rooney Brown (Ruth) of North Bay. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary (Bernier) Freeland, and siblings Evelyn Beck, Albert (late Genevieve), Wilfred (Eleanor), Elmer (Rita), Garnet and Clarence. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Frederick was a True Toronto Maple Leafs fan. GO LEAFS GO. HEDICAN, Shirley (Farrell) -At North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Saturday, October 4, 2008 Shirley Hedican (nee Farrell), peacefully with dignity and her belief in The Resurrection passed into God's hands surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife for 54 years of Ernie Hedican. Loving and devoted mother of Mary-Lynn (Dale Hall) and Tom (Nancy Ann Hedican). Predeceased by her parents Peter & Cecilia Farrell, sister Eileen, brothers Fred, Frank and Phillip. Dear sister of Mae Mossip (Bill), Jack Farrell, Jean Wharram (Ken), Agnes Van Loon (Tony), Betty Mathon (Fern), Barbara Snodden, Susan Jackson (Stew) and aunt to many special nieces & nephews. Shirley was a teacher with the North Bay District Catholic School Board for over 30 years. Family receiving friends at MCGUINTY FUNERAL HOMETuesday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m.
