Skiing at a younger age and in a different gender category, it's hard for Jaimee Bull to stoke up a solid sibling rivalry with her brother Jaret on the water ski course.
But in terms of winning competitions, she is certainly keeping up with her big brother.
The 10-year-old won her second straight Eastern Canadian championship in the girls' 1 category on the weekend at Summerski in Newmarket, completing one buoy on a 14.25-metre rope in the medal round.
That puts her halfway to Jaret's four straight championships and she wouldn't mind catching up with her 15-year-old brother.
He's a little bit older, but yeah I guess," Jaimee said Tuesday.
Jaret also capture gold in the junior men's division, recording two buoys at 11.25 metres. That follows up a personal best in the scoring round at the provincial championships the previous weekend in Bala, when he did one buoy at 10.75 metres and a full pass at 11.25.
In the medal round at provincials, both scored gold in gusty conditions with Jaret recording four buoys at 12 metres and Jaimee with three at 14.25 metres.
While Jaimee is looking forward to winning a second straight national championship in August, Jaret is preparing to join the national team for the World Junior Water Ski Championships Aug. 5 to 8 in Brescia, Italy.
Ranked fourth in the world amongst junior men slalom skiers, Jaret will depart for Italy Thursday and join the team before qualifying starts Aug. 7.
Hopefully I've done everything I can to prepare," he said. I just have to do my best when I'm there and see what happens."
